Year 1 T Level Engineering students from South Bank Colleges recently took their learning beyond the classroom, presenting their innovative Drone Solution projects to industry professionals from Mitie at one of London's most iconic locations, The Shard.
The event provided students with a unique opportunity to showcase their technical knowledge, creativity and problem solving skills in a professional business environment. Presenting to experienced industry colleagues challenged students to think critically about their ideas and communicate their solutions with confidence.

Throughout the project, students developed Drone Solution concepts designed to address real world challenges. Their presentations demonstrated extensive planning, engineering knowledge and a strong understanding of how emerging technologies can be applied within industry.
Standing in front of professionals at The Shard, students displayed impressive confidence and professionalism, highlighting the value of employer engagement within T Level programmes. Experiences like these help bridge the gap between education and employment, giving students valuable insight into workplace expectations while building essential skills for their future careers.
The competition concluded with one team being named the winners. As a result of their outstanding performance, every member of the winning team secured a summer placement with Mitie, providing them with an exciting opportunity to further develop their skills within a leading organisation.
The success of the event reflects the dedication of the students, the support of industry partners and the commitment of staff who have guided learners throughout the year. Special thanks go to Boladale Busari for his encouragement and to Marilin Ospina (MBCS) for her inspirational support and mentorship throughout the project.
At South Bank Colleges, opportunities like this demonstrate the power of employer partnerships in helping students gain practical experience, develop confidence and prepare for successful careers in engineering and technology.
As the engineering sector continues to evolve, experiences that connect students directly with employers remain an essential part of developing the next generation of skilled professionals.
Building Skills for the Future
From developing innovative solutions to presenting in a prestigious professional setting, this experience showcased exactly what T Levels are designed to achieve: combining technical learning with meaningful industry engagement.
Congratulations to all of the students involved for representing South Bank Colleges so well and demonstrating the talent, ambition and professionalism that will help shape the future of engineering.
