Learn new skills with an EHCP at South Bank Colleges
Inclusive Learning at South Bank Colleges supports young people aged 16 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to build confidence, independence, communication, employability and life skills.
Our programmes help students prepare for adult life, further learning, community participation and, where appropriate, supported employment. Students will have individual goals set according to their needs, interests and chosen pathway, with learning targets regularly reviewed.
Parents and carers are invited to attend termly review meetings and annual reviews with relevant professionals. Alongside their chosen pathway, students will study English, maths and digital skills, with these skills taught both in dedicated sessions and through practical activities.
Inclusive Learning Courses
Full time, 16 hours per week. Courses are designed for young adults aged 16 to 25 with an Education, Health and Care Plan.
Each Inclusive Learning pathway is personalised to meet individual needs. Students learn in small, supportive groups with specialist teaching staff and Learning Support Practitioners. Support may include transition support, one-to-one help where required, communication support, Speech and Language Therapy, sensory support, counselling, or other specialist interventions where appropriate.
Explore the Inclusive Learning pathways below. The right course will depend on each student’s EHCP, interests, support needs and next steps.
Learning for Independence
This pathway helps students build confidence in daily life, social communication and independence. Students take part in practical activities such as cooking, community visits, art, travel practice and money skills. English and maths are also embedded into everyday activities, such as weighing ingredients, reading bus numbers and handling money.
Students may continue further along the independence pathway or move on to a work-related course such as Retail or Catering, depending on their progress and goals.
Learning for Community
This course supports students to develop essential life and working skills so they can take part more confidently in the wider community. Students build skills in communication, teamwork, independent travel, money handling, meal preparation, ICT and safe working practices.
The course helps students develop confidence, decision-making and problem-solving skills in a supportive environment.
Progression to Community
This pathway is designed for students preparing for their final year at college and their transition into adult life. It focuses on practical life skills, community participation, employability and next steps beyond college.
Students are supported to build confidence, independence and self-esteem as they prepare for further learning, volunteering, supported employment or other community-based opportunities.
Entry Level Vocational Tasters
This practical course gives students the chance to try different vocational areas before choosing a future pathway. Students may explore subjects such as cookery, retail, sport, art, IT and drama.
The course helps students build confidence, communication, practical skills, social skills and employability skills while discovering what they enjoy and where their strengths may lie.
Creative Industries and Creative Media
These creative pathways are ideal for students who enjoy art, design, media or creative projects. Students can explore drawing, painting, mixed media, graphic design, digital tools and simple media production in a supportive environment.
The courses help students develop creativity, confidence, teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills, while introducing possible future routes in the creative industries.
Business and Retail
This pathway helps students build real workplace skills in a practical retail setting. Students may gain hands-on experience through the ReCo shop at the Clapham Centre, developing skills in customer service, communication, money handling, using a till and card reader, timekeeping and teamwork.
Students also continue to build their English, maths, digital and independence skills through classroom learning and practical activities.
Hospitality and Catering
These pathways are suitable for students interested in food, catering, customer service or hospitality. Students develop practical skills in food preparation, kitchen safety, hygiene, personal presentation, teamwork and customer service.
Some students may also gain experience in café or kitchen-based environments, helping them understand workplace routines and the standards expected in the hospitality and catering sector.
Essential Digital Skills
This course helps students build confidence in using digital technology for learning, life and future work. Students develop practical digital skills, communication skills, problem-solving and safe use of online tools.
The course supports students to prepare for their next stage of education, community life or employment-related opportunities.
Preparation for Employment
This pathway helps students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence needed to move towards paid or voluntary work. Students work on areas such as communication for work, teamwork, problem-solving, interview preparation, CV writing, application forms and workplace behaviour.
Students may also receive support with travel planning, work placements and practical employability activities.
School Links Programme
The School Links Programme gives learners the chance to experience college life in a supportive and practical setting. Students can develop work-related skills, follow routines, work as part of a team and gain confidence in a new learning environment.
This can help support the transition from school to college for learners who may be considering Lambeth College as a next step.
What's unique about our offer?
Every Inclusive Learning programme is personalised to meet individual needs and is delivered using specialist resources tailored to both the student and the subject. Students benefit from small class sizes, Learning Support Practitioner support, specialist teaching staff and access to additional support services where appropriate.
Learning Support Practitioners work closely with Inclusive Learning staff to help students settle into routines, access the curriculum, manage emotions, develop positive coping strategies and build essential life skills. Their support helps create a stable and encouraging environment where students can make meaningful progress towards adulthood.
We warmly invite new students, parents and carers to visit the College for a taster session to help with the transition to a new environment. This is a great opportunity to meet our dedicated staff, interact with current students, take part in a class and find out more about college life.
