Year 11 students from SBUA recently took part in an inspiring visit to London South Bank Technical College as part of the Future Pathways initiative, delivered through the wider LSBU group. The visit offered students a valuable opportunity to experience college life first hand and explore a range of vocational routes available to them after secondary school.
Throughout the day, students engaged in a series of interactive taster sessions designed to give a real insight into different technical disciplines. These included Film, Games Design, Plumbing, and Bricklaying. Each session was carefully structured to be practical and engaging, allowing students to step into workshop and studio environments and try out new skills for themselves.

The Film and Games Design sessions encouraged creativity and digital skills, giving students the chance to think like content creators and developers. Meanwhile, the Plumbing and Bricklaying workshops provided hands on experience in construction trades, helping students understand the technical precision and problem solving required in these fields.

Beyond skill building, the visit played an important role in helping students develop independence and confidence in unfamiliar settings. By navigating a college environment, interacting with staff, and participating in practical activities, students gained a clearer picture of what post 16 education could look like.
Crucially, the experience supported students as they begin making decisions about their future pathways. Exposure to different subject areas allowed them to reflect on their interests, strengths, and potential career directions.
One student shared their thoughts on the day:
“It helped me understand what college is really like and made me think about what I might want to do next.”
Visits like this are a key part of preparing students for life beyond school, ensuring they are informed, confident, and ready to take their next steps.
