A fresh, exciting chapter has begun for South Bank Colleges’ patisserie students, as they step into their new learning home – the beautifully refurbished J110 teaching bakery at London South Bank University’s National Bakery School (NBS).
Thanks to a collaborative partnership between South Bank Colleges, London South Bank University, and the Greater London Authority (GLA), this cutting-edge facility is now delivering Level 2 and Level 3 patisserie and artisan baking training in a professionally equipped environment, giving students direct access to one of the UK’s most respected bakery institutions.
The move forms part of South Bank Colleges’ wider commitment to providing students with hands-on, industry-relevant training, supported by expert tutors and best-in-class facilities. The new J110 bakery, housed in the historic Joseph Lancaster building, is much more than a classroom – it’s a fully functioning teaching bakery with the scope to host specialist masterclasses and bespoke short courses. Here, SBC students will learn alongside future professionals and benefit from cross-campus collaboration that brings together FE and HE learning in a seamless pipeline of skills development.
The refurbished J110 space reflects a shared vision of nurturing talent from the ground up, and stands as a symbol of what’s possible when South Bank Colleges, LSBU, and industry stakeholders come together. The project also benefited from the support of the Worshipful Company of Bakers, whose contribution helped bring the vision to life, as well as that of the Greater London Authority.
As students whisk, knead, and glaze their way through their studies in this new space, they do so with the full backing of a college and university partnership committed to excellence, innovation, and opportunity.
