Is this course for you?

This apprenticeship is ideal if you want to support adults who need care in their daily lives. You may be working in a residential home, nursing home, day centre, supported living service, domiciliary care service or another adult care setting. It is suited to people who are caring, patient, reliable and interested in helping others live as independently and safely as possible.

What experience and skills will you gain?

You will learn how to provide person-centred care that respects dignity, choice, privacy and independence. You will build practical skills in communication, safeguarding, health and safety, care planning, infection prevention, equality and diversity, recording information and working as part of a care team. You will also develop the values and behaviours expected in adult care, including compassion, professionalism, courage, commitment and respect.

  • How will you be assessed?

    You will be assessed through a mixture of workplace evidence, assessor reviews, observations, professional discussions and written or practical tasks. You will build evidence from your day-to-day care role to show that you can apply your knowledge safely and confidently. At the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete an independent End Point Assessment to confirm that you are ready to work to the standard expected of an Adult Care Worker.

  • Where can this course take you?

    This apprenticeship can help you progress as a care assistant, support worker, personal assistant, healthcare support worker or adult care worker. It can also provide a route into higher-level care qualifications, including the Lead Adult Care Worker apprenticeship, and may support future progression into senior care, team leader or specialist support roles.
